So some graduate student at the currently running wikipedia conference suggested that faculty have their students make, or revise, a wikipedia entry as an assignment. I LOVE IT! You would need to have wonderful rhetorical conversations with students about the purpose and audience of wikipedia. And this would give students a “real” audience and publishing venue. Whereas I think this would work really well for graduate students, I’m already trying to imagine how I might get my 100 and 200 level writing and film studies students to do this.
